Websites

A clinic and a shop are not the same site

Designed for what your visitors came to do, fast enough that they stay, accessible to the standard procurement asks for, and yours to edit and to keep. On every site we build, whatever it is for.

Website design and build

Websites, held to the same standard as the software

We design, build and maintain websites for organisations across the UK: businesses, health institutions, schools, charities, retailers and venues. Choose a sector to see how the shape of a site changes with the job it has to do.

Sector

Green marks the enquiry route. An illustrative design made for this page, not a client site: every organisation shown is invented.

The site has to earn an enquiry.

What this kind of site has to get right

  • Service pages that answer the question the buyer actually searched for
  • Case studies and credentials, evidence rather than adjectives
  • Enquiry forms that reach a named person and log the lead
  • Speed that survives a click from a paid advert

True of every site we build

  • ResponsiveLaid out for a 360px phone first, then widened to desktop.
  • AccessibleWCAG 2.2 AA, checked with a keyboard and a screen reader.
  • FastMeasured on a throttled connection, not on studio broadband.
  • EditableYour team changes text, images and pages without calling us.
  • FindableHeadings, metadata and structured data set from the first page.

What is included

Six things, on every site we build

None of these are upgrades. A site that is slow, unreadable to a screen reader, or impossible for your own team to update is not finished, whatever it looks like.

  • Design, not a template

Type, colour and layout are chosen for what the organisation is and what its visitors came to do, not adapted from a theme built for someone else.

  • Built to be fast

Rendered ahead of time where the content allows, and served from the edge, so a page arrives before a visitor decides to leave. Images sized and compressed per device rather than shipped at full resolution.

  • Accessible as delivered

Keyboard reachable, screen-reader legible, contrast measured rather than eyeballed. Built to WCAG 2.2 AA, above the 2.1 AA floor public sector procurement requires.

  • You edit it, not us

Wired to a content system your team can use, so a price, a notice or an opening time is your change to make. No retainer to correct a typo.

  • Ready for search engines

Structured data, sitemaps, canonical URLs and metadata set up at build rather than bolted on. Pages that describe a service, a location or a practitioner are marked up as such.

  • Yours to keep

The domain and the hosting account are in your name from day one, and the site’s source code is yours under the contract. Leaving is a handover, not a negotiation.

Health institutions

Where a website is doing more than presenting

A clinic site is read by someone who may be anxious, on a phone, looking for one specific thing: can you help, when can I be seen, where do I go. That is a different design problem from a brochure, and accessibility stops being a nice-to-have and becomes a duty.

Practitioner and service directories
A patient using a phone
Appointments, from the phone in their hand
  • Appointment requests and referrals, routed to the right team
  • Practitioner and service directories, filterable by need and location
  • Opening times, locations and services published as structured data, in the format search engines read
  • Plain-language content, written to the reading age the NHS asks for
  • Submitted details passed straight to your clinical system, never stored in the website’s own database

How it goes

Four steps, in this order

Website projects go wrong by designing before anyone has agreed what the pages are. Doing it in this order is why ours hold their scope.

  1. 01

    What the site is for

One conversation about who arrives, what they came to do, and what counts as the site having worked. Everything after this is downstream of that answer.

  2. 02

    Structure before surface

Pages, navigation and the words on them, agreed while they are still cheap to move. Design applied to real content, never to placeholder text.

  3. 03

    Design and build

A visual direction chosen for your organisation, then built. You see it running on a real address, on a phone and on a desktop, while it is still being made.

  4. 04

    Launch and hand over

Domain, hosting and analytics in your name. Your team is shown how to edit it, and we stay reachable rather than disappearing at go-live.

What we hold ourselves to

Checkable, not adjectives

Every line below is something you or anyone else can measure on the delivered site. That is the point of writing them down.

  • Largest Contentful Paint under one second on a mid-range phone at handover
  • WCAG 2.2 AA, with the audit report at handover
  • Every page’s text and navigation readable with JavaScript switched off
  • HTTPS with auto-renewing certificates, HSTS and a content security policy
  • Your content system, your logins, your data
  • No analytics or tracking scripts fire before a visitor consents
